Tourism Minister Mark McGowan has welcomed the announcement from Qantas today of an additional 11 domestic flights for Western Australia.
"The extra capacity from Brisbane, Cairns, and in particular Melbourne, is great news for WA," he said.
"The interstate market is extremely important for us and if we are able to provide easy access to WA, we can meet and grow demand.
"Regional WA also benefits from the extra flights, with a second weekly Sydney to Broome service and a second weekly Perth-Kununurra flight.
"Air access is vitally important if we are to grow WA's tourism industry, and these new services will provide a great boost."
Mr McGowan said the State Government had announced plans to make WA the nation's premier tourism State last week.
"These flights help us fulfil that vision," he said.
"Part of the Government's $9.4million injection of funds into tourism marketing will deliver a two-month TV advertising campaign in Melbourne and Sydney using the Real Thing branding.
"A further $500,000 will be spent within the State to encourage more Western Australians to holiday at home.
"This announcement helps us deliver tourists, whether they are international, from interstate, or local, to the fantastic natural attractions we are offering.
"It will also help the Government continue to provide more jobs and opportunities for Western Australians, particularly in the regions."
