More than 20,000 Western Australian teachers in Government schools have received a three per cent pay rise today.
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter said that, despite the ongoing teachers' EBA negotiations, the State Government was committed to giving teachers the pay rise, effective today, regardless of the status of the negotiations.
"This pay increase is a $33million commitment per annum from the State Government," Mr Carpenter said.
"The current teachers' Certified Agreement officially ends today and this pay rise was part of that agreement."
Mr Carpenter said he expected negotiations between the Department of Education and Training and the State School Teachers' Union to conclude in the very near future.
"Outside of family, teachers play one of the most important roles in our children's lives," he said.
"They are a crucial part of this Government's commitment to deliver quality education in Western Australia.
"I am doing all in my power, with the resources available to me, to ensure teachers are justly rewarded for their vital contribution to our children's education."
