The Gallop Government has approved a major redevelopment of the Pinjarra Racecourse - the first facility to receive funds from the State Government's $25million regional racecourse infrastructure grants program.
Racing and Gaming Minister Mark McGowan said approval had been given for Stage One of a proposed multi-stage master plan for Pinjarra Park.
The Stage One development will encompass:

  • an improved drainage system for the main track;
  • an upgrade to the irrigation system; and
  • extensions to the jockeys' and stewards' rooms.
Mr McGowan said $876,000 had been set aside for Stage One works, with the amount of the final grant to be determined once final costings had been obtained and consultation with the regional reference group completed.
"Work on Stage One will start immediately and is expected to be completed before, or at least soon after, the start of the new racing season later in October," he said.
Mandurah MLA David Templeman welcomed the news and said the growth of racing at Pinjarra had been hampered by poor track drainage between late autumn and early spring each year.
"This project will allow the Pinjarra Race Club to extend its racing season," Mr Templeman said.
"The capacity to hold more race meetings at Pinjarra will provide a significant boost to the club, creating more jobs and opportunities for locals."
Mr McGowan said the subsequent stages of the master plan, which involved extensions to the track and waterproofing of the public areas and carpark, would be considered at a later date in conjunction with development plans for the Lark Hill Training Complex.
