
Riverton Leisureplex opened

The $14 million Riverton Leisureplex will provide top-class facilities for everyone from elite swimmers to families, school groups and seniors, Sport and Recreation Minister Alan Carpenter said at the official opening today.
Funding for the centre, which opens for business on Monday, was made up of $12.5million from the City of Canning, $1.3million from the State Government and $250,000 from the Lotteries Commission.
"This outstanding centre will serve generations of people living in the Canning area and is an example of what can be achieved when State and local governments and the community work together," Mr Carpenter said.
"Extensive community consultation has ensured that the facilities meet the needs of the local community."
Those facilities include:
- 50m x eight lane swimming pool;
- leisure pool;
- water slide and deep pool;
- steam room, sauna and spa;
- therapy pool;
- gymnasium/aerobics area;
- children's gymnasium;
- cr?che; and
- change rooms.
"It is commendable that all schools in the City of Canning were invited to take part in an art competition with a selection of entries arranged into displays at the Leisureplex."
