Peel and South-West regions host the fourth Regional Investment Tour
6/3/03
The Peel and South-West regions have been chosen for the State Government's fourth Regional Investment Tour, Premier Geoff Gallop announced today.
The Peel Development Commission and the South West Development Commission, in conjunction with the Department of Local Government and Regional Development and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, will host the tour.
Minister for Peel and the South-West Jim McGinty will officially open the tour in Mandurah on Thursday, March 13, 2003.
The tour will conclude with a function hosted by Dr Gallop in Manjimup on Sunday, March 16.
A group of bankers, venture capitalists, institutional investors and private investors will visit Mandurah, Collie, Bunbury, Bridgetown, Pemberton and Manjimup over the four days.
They will receive presentations on more than 20 projects seeking funding for ventures in the tourism, viticulture, energy and retail sectors.
The group includes representatives from BankWest, Rabobank, Macquarie Bank, Rothschild Australian Golden Arrow Investors, Growth Capital Australia, Hartleys Limited and JB Were.
The regional investment tours are a key initiative of the Government's 'A Fair Go for Regional WA' policy. Tours have been held in the Mid-West, Great Southern and Gascoyne regions.
"As I have said previously, the purpose of these regional investment tours is to bring regional business operators face-to-face with investors and financiers," Dr Gallop said.
"The Peel and South-West regions are two of the fastest growing regions in Australia in terms of urban and commercial expansion.
"This investment tour is a method of capitalising on that wave of economic and population growth to build stronger capacity and greater opportunity in the regions."
Mr McGinty also welcomed the investment tour to the Peel and South-West.
"These tours are one very practical way the State Government is delivering on its commitment to a growing and diversified community in Western Australia's regions," he said.
"Our expectation is that the Peel and the South-West regions will be able to capitalise on the benefits of bringing regional business operators into contact with major investors, well into the future."
