Well-known community leader Patrick Dodson has been appointed to chair the board of the Kimberley Development Commission.
Kimberley Minister Tom Stephens said Mr Dodson would bring a high profile and extensive experience in community development issues to his appointment.
"The Kimberley is entering a potentially exciting period with important new development opportunities emerging throughout the region," Mr Stephens said.
"The Development Commission will have an important role in ensuring that local people and businesses are able to participate fully and share in the benefits of this development."
Mr Stephens also welcomed Wyndham East Kimberley Shire president and Kununurra resident Councillor Barbara Johnson as deputy chair of the board.
Other new faces on the nine-member board include Argyle Diamonds executive Alan Tietzel, Broome Shire president Cr Tom Vinnicombe and Cr Veronica (Nik) Wevers, a Broome resident and director of the Broome Port Authority.
Councillor Peter Kneebone has been reappointed and Wayne Bergman, Ms Ruth Webb-Smith and Ms Josie Farrer continue as members.
Mr Stephens thanked retiring president Dr George Gardiner and board members Kim Male, Martin Peirson-Jones and Ian Trust for their contribution to making the region a better place in which to live and invest.
