New fire appliance for Hamlet Grove
9/9/04
Emergency services in the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley received a major boost with the arrival of a new fire appliance valued at approximately $200,000 today.
Attorney General Jim McGinty MLA presented the 2.4 broadacre tanker to the Shire for use by the Hamlet Grove Bush Fire Brigade.
Mr McGinty said the new vehicle, funded by the Emergency Services Levy, replaced a 30-year-old fire truck.
"This new fire appliance is an example of how the Emergency Services Levy is helping regional communities," he said.
"When it comes to the provision of emergency services equipment, such as fire appliances, all communities deserve to have the resources they need, no matter where they are located.
"Thanks to the Emergency Services Levy, the Derby community will be better protected from wildfire."
The Attorney General paid tribute to the dedication and commitment of local emergency service volunteers.
"I am well aware that in regional areas, volunteers are the driving force behind many services - volunteers who often wear many different hats to keep a wide range of community services and programs going," he said.
"You all willingly give your time and energy to protecting your community, for which you have our gratitude and support."
