Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan has approved the release of land to establish a caravan park at the popular holiday spot Ledge Point, north of Perth.
The Department for Planning and Infrastructure has been working for several years to secure a site, suitable for the many holidaymakers who visit the beachside destination every year.
"With the support from the Shire of Gingin and the Ledge Point Country Club, a site was chosen and expressions of interest called for the development of the park," Ms MacTiernan said.
"A condition on the release of the land will ensure that the site is always used as a caravan park.
"Western Australians love a beach holiday and caravanning makes this possible.
"The land release condition shows the Gallop Government is committed to protecting and enhancing WA's lifestyle and environment."
Gilt Dragon Enterprises, a consortium of local business people, has been chosen as the preferred developer of the four-hectare caravan park.
The consortium will be required to complete 50 per cent of the park within two years.
More than 200 sites will be provided, with more than half set aside for semi-permanent caravan occupation and transient holiday makers.
Extremely generous site sizes (10m x 10m) will accommodate a caravan, car and boat on trailer, while additional facilities planned for the park include:

  • a wash-down area, adjacent to boat storage facilities (for larger vessels);
  • an internet caf? providing telephone and internet facilities 24 hours a day; and
  • a pool, half-court tennis, playground and barbecue area.
Chalets and cabins will also feature at the park, with room left for expansion to meet future demand.
