Lotteries funding to support new aged care facility in Esperance
7/09/01
The Esperance Aged Care Facility today received a welcome grant from the Lotteries Commission to go towards its new wing at its major facility in Esperance. The funding will provide for furniture and equipment in the new wing that will include 10 new beds.
Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths presented the grant to Mr Richard Fowler, Chairman of the Esperance Aged Care Facility. The facility operates a 50-bed centre, employs 95 staff and is supported by 30 volunteers.
"Since 1989 Esperance Aged Care Facility has provided care to the elderly in the area. In recent years demand for their services has increased," Mr Griffiths said.
"As a result of a joint community effort $400,000 has been raised towards the cost of a new wing for 10 extra clients. The grant from Lotteries will go towards furniture and equipment for the new wing.
"This facility will mean that many local residents needing nursing home care will be able to receive that care here, near their family rather than travelling to other regional centres."
Mr Griffiths presented the grant at a breakfast meeting hosted by the Shire of Esperance.
