Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths today officially opened Western Australia's latest 'Lotteries House' in Karratha.
"The building will provide much-needed affordable accommodation for 10 community-based tenants, including organisations that provide legal, employment and health advice and give support to victims of domestic violence," Mr Griffiths said.
"Having such a diverse range of organisations in the same building also will mean they can share resources and learn from each other."
A $1.507million grant from Lotterywest provided the funds to construct and fit-out 'Welcome Lotteries House' in Karratha's central business district.
"It has been 15 years since the former Lotteries Commission responded to the demand by community groups for affordable accommodation by setting up the Lotteries House program," the Minister said.
"Now, 20 houses have been built around the State, from as far as Broome to Esperance.
"The program is unique to WA and has generated considerable national and international recognition for its valuable contribution to local communities.
"Once again, Lotterywest has responded to a local need. People will have convenient access to much-needed services.
"This new Lotteries House will help the local community in their aim to address problems such as unemployment and poverty and provide advice on health, education and housing."
