Discover WA's southern forest region
13/6/02
A new Forest Discovery Kit is helping tourists to Western Australia's southern timber regions plan their trip.
Tourism Minister Clive Brown said the kits were packed with holiday brochures for the Blackwood River Valley and southern forests and highlighted the diversity of natural attractions in the region's national parks.
"Many people are not aware of the abundance of activities available in the region, to suit all ages," Mr Brown said.
"This is really an amazing area, with internationally important wetlands inhabited by a diversity of bird life, superb fishing, walk trails through rare old-growth forests and the Bibbulmun Track, water falls, dams, beaches and beautiful sunsets.
"The region also boasts a large number of wineries, an abundance of regional produce, 4WD adventure tours, a nostalgic tram tour through the forest and accommodation ranging from five-star resorts through to the backpacker market.
"The master craftsmen of the region produce some sensational wooden furniture and there are plenty of art and craft venues to visit."
The kits include a free Forest Discovery Wheel, which was produced to help visitors interpret the plants and trees of the region.
