Contracts have been awarded for a 39-unit chalet park and a new footbridge at Mandurah's Ocean Marina development project.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced details of two contracts worth $4.1million:

  • Mandurah builder JM&ED Moore has secured a $2.9million contract to build a family chalet park; and
  • Bocol Constructions WA Pty Ltd will build a $1.2million footbridge linking the marina's two harbours.
"The chalet park will provide family accommodation close to a new swimming beach and local tourist attractions," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The specially designed footbridge will link the North and South Harbour developments and provide direct access between Mandurah's cultural and business districts and the main marina area.
"It will also double as a spectacular viewing platform, offering views across the marina to the ocean.
"We are committed to developing Mandurah as a liveable and dynamic part of the State."
Mandurah MLA David Templeman said the success of JM&ED Moore was a big win for Mandurah.
"A prime goal of the marina project has been to help boost employment and the local economy and this contract will certainly help that goal," Mr Templeman said.
"It also shows that local companies can compete for major competitive tenders and win."
The chalet park, which will be managed by the City of Mandurah, will include one and two-bedroom chalets, a manager's residence and office, guest laundry, barbecue facilities and a playground.
Room rates are expected to start from $80 a night.
Ms MacTiernan said the $58million Mandurah Ocean Marina was being developed by the State Government's land development specialist LandCorp, in response to initiatives launched by the Peel Development Commission and City of Mandurah.
The facility was expected to generate about $900million economic benefit to the region and hundreds of jobs, over a 20-year span.
The first stage, the North Harbour, was completed in August 2001 and all residential, commercial and tourism sites have been sold. The South Harbour is under construction and is expected to be completed early next year.
