New railway station to be built at Hepburn Ave, Greenwood

Transport Minister Murray Criddle announced today that a new railway station would be built at Hepburn Avenue, Greenwood.
Mr Criddle said the popularity of the Perth-to-Currumbine line had exceeded all expectations and the new station, which will be located within the freeway reserve adjacent to Hepburn Avenue and Mitchell Freeway Avenue, will be the first station built since the completion of the northern suburbs railway in 1993.
A feature of the new station will be a landscaped carpark facility for 660 vehicles.
It is expected the new station will attract passengers who currently use the Warwick and Whitfords park-and-ride facilities and this will ease congestion at those facilities.
"A drop off facility is also included in the design which incorporates a kiosk, covered passenger information and waiting area and a bicycle storage area," Mr Criddle said.
"The cost of building the new station will be in the order of $6.4 million.
"Construction should begin in August this year and be finished in May 2000.
"In line with Westrail's security initiatives, public telephones, help telephones and video surveillance facilities will be included in the new station."
The station has been designed to comply with recognised Australian standards for provision of public transport for people with disabilities and special needs.
As part of a public consultation process, a preliminary design for the new station will be on display at the City of Joondalup council offices and the civic libraries at Joondalup, Whitfords and Woodvale from March 22 to April 19.
