Grants to assist school maintenance work
16/3/93
Important maintenance work at schools across the State will be assisted by more than $205,000 in State Government grants, allocated to Parents' and Citizens' (P and C) Associations.
The grants of up to $30,000 will enable the continued upgrading of school grounds, including facilities such as netball courts, assembly areas and wall fittings for educational displays.
Education Minister Norman Moore said today the grants, known as school improvement subsidies, would be in addition to more than $375,000 contributed by P and C groups, meaning a total of nearly $581,000 had been allocated since the start of the year.
The grants were part of the Education Ministry's Two Year Priority Maintenance Program, which would assist about 800 schools in 1992-93. The full year allocation of grants was expected to be $1.2 million.
"These grants assist the excellent work done by Parents' and Citizens' Associations across Western Australia, with parents raising money and donating time and effort to the improvement of school environments," Mr Moore said.
"This work is funded and done in partnership between P and C groups and the Ministry for the benefit of school children and teachers alike."
The Minister said the grants approved to early March ranged from $1,500 to Denmark District High School, to upgrade and replace play equipment, to $30,000 to Tuart College, to improve toilet facilities.
