THREE NEW FIRE STATIONS NORTH OF PERTH
Three new fire stations are to be built to the north of Perth in a replacement and expansion program for the Fire and Rescue Service announced in the State Budget this week.
Emergency Services Minister Kevin Prince said the 2000-2001 capital works program for the Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) would see new fire stations to serve the Malaga, Ellenbrook and Osborne Park communities.
"This is a major commitment by the Coalition Government to the safety of the community," the Minister said.
"FESA has an on-going program of review and renewal to ensure it expands its services to meet population trends."
The new Malaga fire station will serve a fast growing and diverse community. While its location is still to be determined, current plans are that it is due for completion in 2001.
The Minister said construction of a new fire station for Ellenbrook was also due to be completed in 2001. The site and nature of the facilities were still to be finalised. Funding of $555,000 was budgeted for this facility last year.
The Osborne Park fire station would be redeveloped on the existing site. Construction would be completed this year.
The Minister said $900,000 had been allocated for the Malaga fire station and $700,000 for Osborne Park.
Detailed planning would get under way for both of these projects after July 1.
It was anticipated that firefighters would have the opportunity to participate in the planning process.
