Subiaco station has new home at Whiteman Park

The former Subiaco Railway Station has been re-opened at Whiteman Park as part of the historic tourist rail service.
In opening the buildings at their new home, Planning Minister Graham Kierath said it was encouraging to see the former Subiaco landmark having a functional role in the Whiteman Park facility.
Mr Kierath said the two buildings, the signal cabin and the platform canopy, were removed from Subiaco with the recent redevelopment of the area and moved to Whiteman Park.
"An achievement such as this is even more significant when you realise the work was carried out by volunteers," he said.
"The facility that the Western Australian Light Railway Preservation Association is building here at Whiteman Park is a tribute to their commitment to retaining our transport heritage."
The signal cabin was built in 1923 and extensively repaired after a fire in 1956 while the canopy building was first completed in 1910.
Mr Kierath said the Subiaco Signal Cabin would now be used as the control centre for the Bennet Brook Railway at Whiteman Park.
"It is encouraging that what was once a Subiaco landmark is being preserved rather than being lost through the necessary progress and redevelopment of the area," he said.
Since coming into operation in 1984, the popular rail service at Whiteman Park has travelled nearly 100,000 kilometres with more than 150,000 passengers.
Future projects for the Bennet Brook Railway include installing the former Subiaco station footbridge at the Whiteman Village Junction.
