Goomalling's new Community Bank, which opened today, is an impressive symbol of community confidence according to Regional Development Minister Hendy Cowan.
Mr Cowan said the bank, a branch of the Bendigo Bank, had strong local support with business worth more than $2 million already committed.
"Local people, farmers, businesses and the Goomalling Shire have done more than simply ensure their town has access to banking services," he said.
"They have taken a clear stand for Goomalling's future.
"This has been a community effort, from the first public meeting through a feasibility study to the gathering of commitments."
Mr Cowan said he was pleased the Western Australian Government had been able to support the community with a $5,000 contribution to the feasibility study.
He said the Regional Co-ordination Fund, administered by the Department of Commerce and Trade, was available to help other small communities conduct similar studies with dollar-for-dollar grants up to $5,000.
