Tourism Minister Norman Moore today opened the new All Seasons Newman Hotel saying it would be a real tourism asset for the Pilbara.

Mr Moore said the 120 room hotel would cater for the growing number of tourists visiting the area and was an ideal location to use as a base when visiting local attractions.

"The new hotel is likely to become a very important and central stopping-off point for local attractions, particularly the Karijini National Park and the world's largest open-cut iron ore mine at Mount Whaleback," he said.

"As a region, the Pilbara currently attracts about 236,000 visitors a year, injecting more than $75 million into the local economy.

"The presence of this new hotel will enhance the tourism opportunities for both the town and the region."

He said it was expected the hotel would attract new visitors to the region by providing extra accommodation.

Mr Moore said property developers Australia Asia Pacific Hotels had predicted that over the next five years the hotel would attract an extra 120,000 visitors, $4.3 million and 33 new jobs to the region.
