New $4m state-of-the-art Government primary school announced for Quinns Rocks
14/7/99
A new state-of-the-art Government primary school will provide quality education for children in the rapidly expanding northern community of Quinns Rocks.
Education Minister Colin Barnett announced today that the new $4 million Quinns North Primary School would open in 2001 and complement the existing Quinns Rocks, Merriwa and Mindarie primary schools.
The new school, expected to open with about 50 kindergarten and pre-primary students and 220 primary students, will alleviate enrolment pressure at other schools in the area and provide all students with the modern education facilities they deserve.
Mr Barnett said Quinns North Primary School would feature 12 primary and three early childhood education classrooms - two for pre-primary and one for kindergarten programs - and an education support centre for students with disabilities.
"It will also have a modern automated library/resource centre, a covered assembly area and canteen for school and community events, art/craft and music rooms, administration block, hard courts and practice wickets," Mr Barnett said.
Fibre optic cabling will link Quinns North Primary School to computer facilities at other schools and to the Education Department's central office, the Internet and research facilities.
The school will be built on Santa Barbara Drive, about two kilometres north of the Quinns Rocks Primary School.
