Racing and Gaming Minister Max Evans announced today that Mrs Jan Stewart had been re-appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Lotteries Commission for a five-year term.

Mrs Stewart has been CEO of the Commission since April 1992 and for two years prior to that was the commission's director of community funding.

Mr Evans said that the Government's decision to re-appoint her coincided with the State's sales of lotteries products becoming the second highest per capita in the world.

Sales of comparable lotteries products have been the highest in Australia for some time and the third highest in the world for at least 12 months.

The latest figures reveal that Western Australia has now moved up to second place.

Under Mrs Stewart's leadership, sales of the commission's gaming products has risen from $313.5 million in 1994 to an anticipated $385 million in 1996.

Funds distributed to community organisations as a result of these sales has increased proportionately and in 1995 the return to the community exceeded $100 million for the first time in the Lotteries Commission's 63-year history.

"Lotteries are so popular and successful in WA because of the very clear advantages that flow to the community from the commission's activities," Mr Evans said.
