17/9/99
Arts Minister Peter Foss has launched the 1999 Artrage program and television commercial.
Mr Foss said the State Government was delighted to be the major supporter of the Artrage Festival again.
"Additional funding has recently been provided for Artrage, which will enable greater involvement of young people in the festival," he said.
"Artrage has forged a reputation as the State's premier contemporary arts festival dedicated to supporting local artists and is eagerly anticipated each year for its spectacle, challenge, fun and excitement.
"Each year, it puts locals experimental art to the forefront, giving valuable exposure to hundreds of performers and artists.
"I am delighted that once again there are many free events and tickets are priced to make the festival accessible to all members of the community."
Mr Foss congratulated Artrage for providing an innovative and diverse program.
"I am extremely pleased to be able to launch this exciting program and I look forward to taking part in the Artrage activities in early October," he said.
The 1999 focus of the Artrage Festival is Northbridge and the Cultural Centre, which helps breath life into the City of Perth.
The opening party on October 1 will provide an all-ages gig, which includes Worn Out Worn Art, a wearable art parade in the city streets and malls. The all-ages gig will be followed by a licensed gig featuring local bands, street theatre and the crowning of Mr and Mrs Artrage.
