Guidelines for Mungari industrial park finalised
26/7/93
Environmental conditions for the Mungari Heavy Industry Park in Kalgoorlie have been finalised, paving the way for a new industrial era in the Goldfields region.
Lands Minister George Cash today announced that Environment Minister Kevin Minson had set the environmental conditions to allow for the establishment of the park, 26 kilometres south-west of Kalgoorlie.
The conditions include provision for the on-going environmental management of the park and strict criteria on noise limits, atmospheric emissions and solid and liquid waste disposal.
"The finalisation of the environmental conditions is a milestone in the development of what will be the first major inland heavy industrial park developed in Western Australia," Mr Cash said.
"Rezoning of the land for industrial purposes and negotiations for acquisition of the balance of the land required can now proceed in earnest.
"Subject to rezoning and sub-division approvals, I am confident that land will be available for industry by the end of the year."
Mr Cash called on industry interested in locating at the park to lodge expressions of interest with the Goldfields-Esperance Development Authority, the Department of Resources Development or the Western Australian Land Authority.
He said knowledge of industry requirements would play a major role in the design of the park.
"LandCorp aim to design the park to suit its users rather than making industries suit a fixed park design," the Minister said.
"The land will not be sub-divided into conventional lots but will be available in sizes to suit particular operations."
Mr Cash said the Mungari development had the potential to open up opportunities for new industries interested in downstreaming their products and would significantly improve the region's employment prospects.
