Funding for Albany Vacation Care Association
14/8/97
Funding of $8,858 has been approved for the Albany Vacation Care Association to provide services for primary school aged children of working or studying parents, Family and Children's Services Minister Rhonda Parker announced today.
Mrs Parker said the funding allowed the vacation care service to provide school children with the opportunity to enjoy a variety of safe and stimulating activities during the school holidays.
"School vacation care services offer supervised play and recreational activities which promote the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of the children in their care," she said.
"Parents participate in the management of the service which also offers occasional care for children whose parents are not working and services for children with disabilities.
"The service also offers respite care for children referred by Family and Children's Services and caters for up to two children with special needs on a daily basis.
"It is easily accessible to all families in the local community who need vacation child care."
Mrs Parker said the funding, which had been approved through Family and Children's Services, had been transferred from the Town of Albany. She said the program would be based at the Albany Primary School during school vacations.
"This agreement for funding of services will enable the association to provide valuable ongoing services to meet the needs of families and children in the area," she said.
