Planning Minister Richard Lewis has given conditional approval for an automatic car wash to be built in Nollamara.

The Minister has upheld an appeal against a decision by the City of Stirling refusing approval for the development of a 24 hour car wash, workshop and showroom on the corner of Wanneroo Road and Shakespeare Avenue.

Mr Lewis said he had carefully considered the submissions received in opposition to the development and there had been a detailed evaluation of the proposal.

"My approval is subject to the owners of the redevelopment, Forestview Nominees Pty Ltd, agreeing to restrict their trading hours to between 7.00 am and 9.00 pm," he said.

"I am convinced that any use of the site should be confined to reasonable hours of operation to reduce the impact on nearby residential areas."

The Minister said the council could also impose conditions relating to the amalgamation of the two lots included in the proposal, positioning and screening of lights and the provision and maintenance of landscaping.

"I have examined the plans for the proposed development and believe that the way the buildings are situated existing residential properties to the south will be shielded to some extent," he said.

Mr Lewis said the site was previously used as a service station and due to its zoning could also be used as a car wash facility.

"I understand the concern of residents in the area but they must also acknowledge the fact that the site is zoned for use as a car wash," he said.

"Given the current zoning the land has very limited prospects."
