Joondalup is a big winner in this year's State Budget, with more than $3 million earmarked for the start of work on the next stage of the Joondalup TAFE campus.

Stage 2.2 of the North Metropolitan College of TAFE campus will involve construction of a library resource centre, student amenities such as a cafeteria, and conference and communication facilities.

The building will also include general learning and study areas and administrative offices.

Employment and Training Minister Norman Moore said enhancing the training opportunities of Western Australians was a priority for the State Government.

"We are committed to supporting and maintaining the economic growth and industrial development in this state through developing and upgrading the skills of the current and future workforce," Mr Moore said.

"These efforts will ensure that Western Australians are best placed to take up job opportunities in this State."

Joondalup's sister campus at Balga will receive $300,000 to complete construction of a building trades block (total cost $4.1 million).

Across the State, regional and rural training has been boosted by $13.6 million for major capital works.

Apart from the metropolitan area, regions to benefit include the Pilbara, where $2.4 million will be spent on a classroom block and language centre at Pundulmurra College; and Peel with $2 million to complete the Peel Regional Campus for TAFE and Murdoch University.

The Minister said rural and metropolitan areas would continue to be serviced by Regional Employment Development Officers, with the department funding rural and metropolitan Job Link projects and regional Aboriginal Economic Employment Development Officer projects.
