Broome's Eco Beach Resort and Leewin Estate Winery win national tourism awards

Eco Beach Resort near Broome, and Leeuwin Estate Winery at Margaret River,are among the winners of the 1999 Australian Tourism Awards announced in the Melbourne Convention Centre tonight.
"The entire Western Australian tourism industry joins me in congratulating Eco Beach and Leeuwin Estate on receiving these prestigious awards," Tourism Minister Norman Moore said.
"National recognition of Leeuwin Estate and Eco Beach as leaders in wine tourism and eco-tourism, against fierce competition throughout Australia, re-affirms the importance of providing our visitors with experiences that exceed their expectations,"
Mr Moore said.
"These awards add further to the wonderful success of the WA tourism industry over the past four years.
"Visitation has been growing, the economic benefit has been increasing, and more and more jobs are being created."
Eco Beach, on Cape Villaret , about 30km south of Broome, won the national Environmental Tourism award for effectively demonstrating that tourism accommodation can be commercially successful while ensuring the natural environment is conserved and sustained.
Leeuwin Estate won the Tourism Winery award for its international reputation (its fine wines are exported to 25 countries), and total visitor experiences in food, art and wine.
Leeuwin Estate also holds cooking schools and educational programs, as well as hosting the annual Leeuwin Estate concerts which feature the world's greatest performers.
