The Containers for Change facility sees teams collecting, sorting and processing containers for a 10c recycling deposit. Since commencing the scheme in October 2020, the sites have collectively removed over 14 million containers from landfill, while funding more than 15,000 meals through their Food for the Mob program.

The new can counting machine in Carnarvon is helping the ABC Foundation to secure a reliable and sustainable source of income for their local community-based programs.

The project was supported by the State Government through the Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants program. The program aims to enhance economic development and job creation in regional Western Australia, having committed $3,609,372 of RED funding to 32 projects in the Gascoyne to date.

More than 50 new Gascoyne-based jobs have been created through investment in local businesses and community initiatives since RED Grants commenced in 2018.

Round 6 of the RED Grants program closes tomorrow.
