Duplication of the Mandurah Estuary Bridge, south of Perth, is one step closer with Georgiou Group Pty Ltd being officially named as the Preferred Proponent to design and deliver the project.

Georgiou Group Pty Ltd has considerable experience in constructing bridges in Western Australia, including the design and construction of the award-winning Mandurah Traffic Bridge, which was completed in 2018.

Georgiou Group Pty Ltd is also part of the Alliance currently delivering the new Fitzroy River Bridge.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian Governments, with each contributing $55 million.

The project involves construction of a second, two-lane bridge on the south side of the current bridge.

The project will also include construction of a new four-metre wide shared path to improve connectivity and access to recreational activities for the local community.

More than 33,000 vehicles currently use the existing Mandurah Estuary Bridge every day, with congestion an ongoing issue.

Detailed design will be carried out before construction gets underway, with the project expected to be completed by late 2025.

Main Roads have completed environmental and heritage assessments and preliminary site investigations.

"The project will also lead to the creation of an additional 500 local jobs, boosting the local economy."

Quotes attributable to WA Transport Minister, Rita Saffioti:

"When the Mandurah Estuary Bridge was originally constructed in the 1980s, it was not designed to cater for the high volumes traffic we have today.

"It is a key connection between Mandurah and the wider Peel region, with more than 33,000 vehicles using the bridge every day.

"Duplicating the bridge will significantly ease the congestion currently experienced on approach to the bridge and cut the travel times for the thousands of commuters every single day."

Quotes attributable to WA Senator, Louise Pratt:

"It's great to see the Australian and State Governments working together to meet the infrastructure needs of the Peel region.

"The duplication of the estuary bridge is important for commuters to improve their journeys and get them home quicker and more safely."

Quotes attributable to Mandurah MLA, David Templeman:

"Mandurah locals know just how busy this stretch of road is and the congestion that is created as you approach the estuary bridge.

"Duplicating the bridge will ensure we minimise that congestion and make the journey safer and quicker for thousands of commuters every day.

Quotes attributable to the Dawesville MLA, Lisa Munday:

"Our Government committed to duplicating this bridge and we're getting on with the job.

"I hear all the time, while I am out doorknocking and meeting constituents, that the duplication is something that everyone is very excited about and I am so happy to be delivering it with David Templeman and Robyn Clarke with the support of Minister Saffioti."
