The Transport Minister today visited the recently opened Chapman Road Shared Path in the City of Greater Geraldton, which is proving to be a highly valued and used path connecting people of all ages and abilities to civic amenity and recreational precincts.

Forming part of the State Government's $4.9 million Geraldton Cycling Network Expansion, this 3.5km long, 3m wide path provides a continuous link between Corallina Quays and Glenfield Beach Drive.

The path was one of the top priorities in the Geraldton 2050 Cycling Strategy.

Locals and visitors alike are thrilled to see this path become a reality, with demand for local off-road shared paths being a key aspiration for the past decade.

The Chapman Road Shared Path features free self-service bike repair stations at the north and south ends of the path.

Stage one of the network expansion was completed in 2022 and saw a new shared path constructed between Hillview Drive and Chapman Road.

Stage three is currently at design phase and will see a shared path constructed along the Brand Highway from Tarcoola Beach to Cape Burney.

Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We have already seen people of all ages and abilities use the Chapman Road Shared Path and received some great feedback.

"This growing and vibrant Mid West community has been aspiring for safe and connected walking and riding off-road paths for some time and the Cook Labor Government is proud to deliver.

"Our commitment to expand Geraldton's cycling network will see it expand by 8.3 kilometres and allow locals and visitors more choice in how they get around.

"With end of trip facilities included as part of this project, it makes it easier and more convenient than ever for people to walk, wheel and ride."

Comments attributed to Geraldton MLA Lara Dalton:

"It has been wonderful to see this shared path be well received and utilised by locals, who now have a safe walking and riding option to school and to work, or just for a weekend leisure activity.

"The community of Geraldton have long been advocating for a safe way to move between Drummond Cove and the City on foot or by bicycle, and I want to congratulate all the different groups involved."
