Lotterywest grant supports community legal centre upgrade
- Circle Green Community Legal awarded $306,000 for refurbishment
- Office upgrades to help manage greater volume and complexity of legal work
- Funding boost supports the provision of specialist legal services for vulnerable people
The Attorney General has welcomed a Lotterywest grant that will refurbish existing spaces at Circle Green Community Legal, as well as provide new workspaces at the Hay Street office.
The not-for-profit centre offers specialist services in workplace law, residential tenancy law, family and domestic violence and humanitarian-focused migration law.
As part of WA's legal assistance sector, it contributes to the provision of culturally safe, trauma-informed, and client-centred legal services to people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage.
New and updated work areas and meeting rooms will be better equipped to handle the volume and complexity of work being undertaken and the rising demand for legal advice and services.
The office modifications made possible by the grant will also better protect staff safety and wellbeing.
In the 2023-2024 financial year Circle Green supported 8,000 people and provided 16,245 legal services State-wide.
Comments attributed to Attorney General John Quigley:
"An effective and supported legal assistance sector is vital to Western Australia's justice system, both at an individual and community level.
"Refurbishing the premises of Circle Green will assist it in meeting growing demand for its high-level support.
"Moreover, getting legal help in time can stop problems getting worse, so people can stay in work and families can stay in their homes."
