Grant funding available to boost active travel to school
- Applications for the 2023-24 Connecting Schools Grant now open
- Eligible schools participating in the "Your Move" program have an opportunity to share in $225,000 to improve bike access, skills and infrastructure
- Cook Labor Government is committed to improving the rates of riding and walking to school across WA
Eligible schools can now apply for the 2023-24 Connecting Schools Grant round.
A total of $225,000 in grant funding, is available to support schools to upgrade bike and scooter parking, install bike repair stations and bike tracks, run bike skills and road safety education workshops, and much more.
Schools across the State participating in the Your Move program, that meet the eligibility requirements, can apply for one of 49 grant packages offered through a partnership between the Department of Transport and Department of Education.
This funding, along with initiatives from the Active Travel to School Roadmap launched earlier this year, plays a key role in improving physical activity in children and creating school environments and communities that support active travel.
Connecting Schools Grant applications close at 5.00 pm on Wednesday, 6 September 2023. Visit the Connecting Schools Grant (yourmove.org.au) for more information.
Comments attributed to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Over the past 40 years the rate of children walking and bike riding to school has declined, and our Government wants to see more of our kids being active.
"This grant offers schools practical support to encourage students and their families to choose more active modes of travel for the school commute - with an aim of increasing physical activity and reducing car trips and parking pressures.
"I strongly encourage eligible Your Move Schools to apply for the Connecting Schools Grant, and for those not already signed up to the Your Move program to do so to be able to enjoy the program's many benefits, including these funding opportunities."
