Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch has today announced the 2024 Seniors Week Grants recipients, sharing in $80,000 funding to run community events across Seniors Week.

Seniors Week celebrates the role of older people in our communities, promotes positive ageing and encourages participation in community life.

Held between 10 and 17 November 2024, the week will see dozens of events and activities staged across WA.

A total of 76 community organisations and local governments in metropolitan, regional and remote areas of our State have been provided with grant funding for Seniors Week activities.

Events include an Active Ageing Expo in Mindarie, a 'Blast from the Past' quiz in Kellerberrin, a Seniors Week Olympics in Denham, a seniors dinner and dance in Pinjarra, a seniors cruise on the Murchison River in Kalbarri and an 'On Country with our Elders' event in Halls Creek.

The funding allocations of up to $3,000 per event will be used to cover expenses for Seniors Week activities, such as advertising and promotion, catering, venue and equipment hire, and transport.

The Seniors Week Community Grants Program is coordinated by the Council on the Ageing (CoTA) in partnership with the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.

Comments attributed to Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch:

"Seniors Week events are a great opportunity to recognise and thank seniors for their contribution to our State and link seniors to their communities.

"The Seniors Week Community Grants Program enables community groups and local governments across Western Australia to hold events that connect seniors with their community.

"These events will celebrate the role of seniors and encourage participation in community life, particularly for isolated people."
