New Victoria Park Train Station opened

The latest addition to Perth's rail infrastructure, the new Victoria Park train station, opened today.

Opening the $9.2million station, Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the magnificent new station is the fifth the Labor Government has built on the networks 'old' lines.

"Over the past few years, we have completed several upgrades and improvements to rail infrastructure in the area," Ms MacTiernan said.

"This included re-aligning and lowering the tracks, upgrading Carlisle Station, constructing a new traffic bridge at Miller/Roberts Road and a new footbridge at Howick Street, and closing the level crossings at Bishopsgate Street and Crawford Street.

"The new station has a covered footbridge linking Rutland and Kitchener Avenues to the station entry structures, as well as access ramps, stairs and a lift between the footbridge and platform."

Other features are:

·          an island platform with a booth for Transit Officers;

·          a station building - a roof structure over the platform, communications room, cleaner's room and stairs to a footbridge; and

·          passenger drop-off locations, vehicle circulation areas and footpath access.

Welcoming the new station, Victoria Park MLA Ben Wyatt said it was the product of an extensive community consultation program to ensure that it met the needs of the local community.

"This included talks with the Town of Victoria Park and consultation with a stakeholder review group that included the local Ratepayers' Association and the Association of the Blind," Mr Wyatt said.
