OzJet to commence services to Western Australia
3/02/06
Business air travellers to the Eastern States will be specifically catered for, with new National airline OzJet soon to offer flights to Melbourne.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today welcomed the proposed introduction of services to Perth by OzJet, commencing March 6.
Perth is OzJet's third destination following the airline's launch of services between Melbourne and Sydney in November 2005.
The airline will offer a daily business class service between Perth and Melbourne with the flights providing convenient Sydney connections. The flights will offer 60 full-business class service seats in each direction using a Boeing 737 aircraft, which normally offers up to 130 seats.
"OzJet will be welcomed by the Western Australian business community and will offer competitive choice to Qantas and Virgin Blue services between Perth and the Eastern States," Ms MacTiernan said.
"We support this initiative by Paul Stoddart and the OzJet team.
"This particular model is in operation in various parts of the world and is a further example of the airline industry's faith in the robustness of the WA economy. Although OzJet is targetting the corporate traveller, there is expected to be some positive flow-on effect for tourism in the State and Tourism WA will work closely with the airline.
"The Government is pleased once again to be working in close co-operation with Westralia Airports Corporation in welcoming OzJet to WA and we wish them every success."
The Carpenter Government remains committed to providing quality services to all Western Australians.
