Racing radio expands in the Goldfields
Goldfields residents will be able to access full racing coverage and information following an expansion of the Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) racing radio network.
Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron welcomed the move describing it as a major boost for the industry.
"Goldfields people have always been strong supporters of WA's racing industry and the expansion of racing radio in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Kambalda means they will gain access to a service that many others in the State take for granted," Mr Waldron said.
In August, two new frequencies - 104.3FM in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and 106.7FM in Kambalda - became available in the Goldfields region and successfully secured by Racing Radio at the Australian Communication and Media Authority's (ACMA) auction.
The new Kalgoorlie-Boulder frequency will provide the city and its suburbs with a stronger signal that will cover a greater area and 106.7FM in Kambalda will be a new addition to the Racing Radio Network that already has 33 frequencies across the State.
"Having high-power licences in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Kambalda will enable us to provide better service to our stakeholders in the region, especially for those who travel frequently between the two," RWWA chief executive officer Richard Burt said.
"We are in the process of purchasing and installing all necessary equipment in both locations to launch Racing Radio on the new frequencies in January 2011."
Racing Radio broadcasts all thoroughbred, harness and greyhound meetings being covered by RWWA and provides industry news and interviews; latest market changes; and other specific racing information.
