Car owners now have even more choice when customising their vehicle, with new platinum series number plates available from today at metropolitan and regional Department of Transport centres.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the stylish new plates, which cost $125 a set, were a great option for car owners wanting something a bit more sleek and modern for their cars, rather than the standard issue State plates.

"The new platinum series feature silver characters on a black background and are slimline in size," Mr Nalder said.

"The new plate series adds to the already extensive choice West Australians have in personalising their number plates, with 14 different types of customised plates now available."

The platinum series incorporates the 1F numeric/character sequence that would normally be used for Western Australian State number plates.

The Minister said because the platinum series plates were pre-manufactured, customers could buy them over the counter with no application required, allowing them to take home their plates straight away.

"The plates will be issued in sequential order with a range of 1FAA 000 to 1FZZ 999, meaning customers will not be able to select particular character combinations," he said.

"Customers who purchase these platinum series plates will be able to on-sell them in the open market, as currently applies with other customised plates."
