New Bunbury homes for people with disability
- Five units delivered through State Government partnership with community housing sector
The State Government has partnered with community housing provider Alliance Housing to deliver five new homes in Bunbury for people with physical disability.
Housing Minister Colin Holt was in Bunbury today to meet the new tenants and officially open the Flynn Street units, which he said had been cleverly designed to cater for clients with physical disability.
"These homes are for people who are on the Housing Authority's waitlist or who receive support through the Disability Services Commission," Mr Holt said.
"Alliance Housing will manage the properties and support services will be provided for people who require assistance with daily living."
The five-unit complex comprises two two-bedroom units and three one-bedroom homes. The development is well-located near two parks, public transport and a full suite of services and amenities at the Bunbury Forum Shopping Centre.
The Housing Authority transferred the title of 20 Flynn Street to Alliance Housing, which secured funding and managed the construction of the units with builder Coastal Homes, at a cost of $890,000. The project involved a host of local businesses and the City of Bunbury.
The Minister said a key element of the Liberal National Government's Affordable Housing Strategy was the transfer of housing assets to community housing organisations, enabling them to grow their businesses and leverage assets to increase social and affordable housing stock.
"Alliance Housing manages 89 properties on behalf of the Housing Authority," Mr Holt said.
"As a registered community housing provider, Alliance have committed to delivering seven new properties by 2020. The Flynn Street development contributes five units towards that target.
"The Flynn Street development showcases the effectiveness of partnerships between government and community housing organisations to increase the supply of social and affordable housing in Western Australia."
