Minister congratulates West Australian Shaun Tan for his Oscar win

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today congratulated West Australian illustrator and author Shaun Tan on his Academy Award for his short animated film 'The Lost Thing'.

"It is wonderful to see a local illustrator and author receive such a prestigious award," Mr Day said.

"Shaun Tan's win is also a win for our State, putting WA arts and culture on the international stage.

"The State has long recognised his talent.  He has been a multiple recipient of various categories in the highly regarded WA Premier's Book Awards.

"The Spare Parts Puppet Theatre has adapted Shaun's picture book 'The Arrival' into a successful production, touring internationally.

"The Barking Gecko Theatre Company will present an adaptation of another of his books 'The Red Tree' in July 2011."
