Homemaker centre secures anchor tenant
Pilbara Motor Group to occupy Karratha's Gap Ridge Homemaker Centre
Centre has potential to create up to 500 jobs
LandCorp and the Pilbara Motor Group (PMG) have signed a contract for the sale of a 2.06 hectare commercial lot at Gap Ridge Homemaker Centre.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Terry Redman said the centre had the potential to create up to 500 jobs in Karratha and PMG's investment paved the way for civil works to start this month.
"It is fitting that the Pilbara Motor Group is the business to kick-start construction of Gap Ridge Homemaker Centre, as it is a family owned and operated motor dealership which was established in the Pilbara," Mr Redman said.
"Construction of the homemaker centre will be undertaken by a locally based contractor and future businesses at the completed centre will offer employment opportunities for hundreds of people in the Pilbara region."
The Minister said PMG's commitment to the homemaker centre was an encouraging sign that companies were still investing in the Pilbara.
"The Gap Ridge Homemaker Centre has attracted interest from major national bulky goods retailers looking to expand into the Pilbara," he said.
"The centre will accommodate the growing demand from Karratha residents - particularly young families - for household goods and services.
"The State Government, through LandCorp, is working with the private sector to create a commercial development that will capitalise on the growth of the household goods and services market to further strengthen Karratha's economic prosperity.
"The new homemaker centre is tangible evidence that the Pilbara has a resilient economy and communities in the North-West will continue to grow."
