Festival with a passion for fashion opens
- 2012 Perth Fashion Festival gets under way with more than 30 designers
- Festival is one of the most popular features of WA's events calendar
- Supported by the Department of Culture and the Arts and Eventscorp
Premier Colin Barnett tonight launched the 14th Perth Fashion Festival at the Perth Town Hall.
"Perth Fashion Festival provides West Australians and visitors to our State with the opportunity to see some of our outstanding local designers," Mr Barnett said.
"As part of the week-long event, more than 30 WA fashion designers will present their Spring/Summer collections for the community to enjoy."
The Premier said the State Government was a strong supporter of the festival, through the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA) and Eventscorp.
"DCA has supported some of the 2012 Perth Fashion Festival industry events such as the Designer Capsules, WA Designer Collections, Popsicle in Northbridge and a new event scheduled for November in Fremantle called The Dreamers," he said.
Mr Barnett said the State Government had supported the festival since 2005 and in that time attendance had more than tripled.
"The Perth Fashion Festival is one of the most vibrant and popular features of our State's diverse events calendar," he said.
"This event gives Perth and Western Australia exposure to a global television audience and offers another great opportunity to showcase our evolving and maturing city."
This year's festival will include more than 40 parades and events at venues across the city and surrounding suburbs.
The Premier congratulated the local designers involved in this year's festival and tonight's showcase by One Fell Swoop.
