Lands Minister Brendon Grylls today announced about 400 jobs would be created after Woolworths and childcare service provider Buggles have been chosen to develop the first retail facility and child care services at LandCorp's Harvest Lakes Village Centre in Atwell.

"These first lots to be developed are located at the heart of the village centre and the amenities on offer will fulfil the day-to-day needs of Harvest Lakes' residents as well as the wider catchment area," Mr Grylls said.

"The village centre will provide retail shopping, dining, child care and medical facilities providing a major boost to services and the local economy."

Woolworths is a well established national chain and will develop the largest lot in the centre and bring a full range supermarket plus specialty stores to Harvest Lakes.

Construction of the shopping centre was expected to begin within the next 12 months with about 180 jobs created during the construction phase with and about 200 positions created post-construction.

Leading WA child care provider Buggles has been selected to develop a new centre on a 2,205sqm site on Alliance Entrance. This should provide up to 92 places for children in day care.

These facilities will add to the existing amenities on offer within the Harvest Lakes estate which include a primary school, community centre, a large lake and several areas of parkland.

A developer will shortly be sought to purchase and develop the medical centre site.
