New public space the crowning feature of the Perth City link project

Yagan Square - Perth's next major public open space and tourist destination - is taking shape with construction now 30 per cent complete.
Work on the $73.5 million project started in early 2016, and public areas including the Market Hall and landmark 45 metre digital tower are now well underway.
Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett, who visited the site today with Planning Minister Donna Faragher, said the development of Yagan Square was vital to the transformation of Perth's central business district and the State's tourism industry.
"When complete late next year, Yagan Square will be a unique, international tourist destination offering visitors to Perth, an authentic West Australian experience and celebration of Noongar culture," the Premier said.
"The Liberal National Government is committed to increasing the value of tourism in WA to $12 billion by 2020. Investment in contemporary new destinations such as Yagan Square, Elizabeth Quay, the Perth Stadium and the new museum is essential to achieving that goal.
"The development of Yagan Square has also created new jobs - with more than 225 workers currently employed, including more than 80 subcontractors, which are supplying services and materials."
Planning Minister Donna Faragher said Yagan Square would be the jewel in the crown of the $5 billion Perth City Link project, which was reconnecting the city with Northbridge for the first time in 100 years.
"Yagan Square will offer a range of attractions and amenities for families, tourists and city workers including a gourmet food market, restaurants, cafes, amphitheatre, children's play space, and public art," Mrs Faragher said.
"Current site activities are focused on building the Market Hall and Horseshoe Lane buildings. Construction of the digital tower, which will become a CBD landmark with a circular screen featuring artistic and cultural content, is well advanced."
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority is managing the construction, commissioning and leasing for Yagan Square.
