Builder's Northam move a catalyst for growth
SuperTowns project moves ahead
Major construction company moves to Avon Industrial Park
Boost for town's economic development
Northam is fast emerging as Western Australia's newest SuperTown, a State Government initiative to stimulate new jobs, businesses and growth in key regional centres.
Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the recent decision by building company Hutchinson Builders to locate significant new facilities near Northam was a major coup for the town.
"With a predicted 300 jobs to be created at the company's new modular accommodation factory, the State's Regional Centres Development Plan (SuperTowns) in Northam has been given a real boost," Mr Grylls said.
"The SuperTowns initiative will see $80million in State Government Royalties for Regions funding allocated to transformational projects in nine strategic regional communities, including Northam."
The Minister said the company would establish its operations on a 70,000sqm site at LandCorp's 473ha Avon Industrial Park, 18km from Northam, early this year.
"The park was WA's first modern industrial estate established by a community desire to create jobs through economic opportunity and encourage people to live and work in the region," he said.
"The vision for Avon Industrial Park was delivered by the Government through LandCorp in partnership with the Avon Community Development Foundation and the Wheatbelt Development Commission to meet the needs of industries servicing the rural, resources and mineral processing markets.
"The estate has enjoyed bipartisan support over the years and is now successfully home to several manufacturing and rural service companies as well as the C Y O'Connor Institute.
"When completed the park is expected to create 2,000 direct jobs and $12million in wages."
Hutchinson's modular units will be delivered to the Pilbara to support the accommodation needs of the resources industry.
