Australia's top ranked players to play at Perth Arena
Poland represented at the Hopman Cup for the first time
Eventscorp is a founding sponsor of Hyundai Hopman Cup
In a sporting coup for Perth, four more of the world's top tennis players have signed on to play at the Hyundai Hopman Cup 2014 at Perth Arena.
Former US Open winner and world number 11, Samantha Stosur, and young gun Bernard Tomic have committed to represent Australia.
Poland will be represented by world number four Agnieszka Radwanska and Jerzy Janowicz, fresh from making history at Wimbledon as the first Polish man to reach the last four of a major tennis tournament.
Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the Hopman Cup was an important example of a home-grown tourism event. The State Government is a founding sponsor through Eventscorp.
"The tournament provides West Australians with world class tennis action and the television coverage provides important exposure for WA across the world," Mrs Harvey said.
"The Hopman Cup draws the world's best players because it offers perfect preparation for the Australian Open - even more so now because the conditions at Perth Arena are similar to Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
"Last year's tournament, held for the first time at Perth Arena, was a huge success attracting a record total attendance of more than 104,000 people, up 27 per cent on the previous year."
Sport and Recreation Minister Terry Waldron said the field for the 26th Hyundai Hopman Cup promised to be one of the strongest in the tournament's history, with more teams to be announced in the coming months.
"Stosur recently won the Southern California Open defeating world number two Victoria Azarenka, and Tomic made the fourth round at Wimbledon," Mr Waldron said.
"It is the first time the pair, currently Australia's top ranked male and female players, have joined forces to compete in Perth's home grown international tennis tournament.
"Poland's first team at the Hopman Cup is very strong with Radwanska and Janowicz, ranked number 14 in the world. Both reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon."
