Future of Fremantle project timeframe

In mid-2024 the Future of Fremantle Planning Committee will recommend to the Western Australian Government a vision for the future redevelopment of the Fremantle Inner-Harbour precinct.

The Future of Fremantle has been conducted in three phases. During the latter half of 2024 the State Government will consider the recommended vision together with recommendations and advice for interrelated projects, including the Westport Business Case and Non-Container Trade projects. The staging and sequencing of any future redevelopment of the Inner Harbour would need to respond to the Government's transition plan for moving container and non-container trades out of Fremantle. 

Phase 1 - Project scoping and understanding

  • Future of Fremantle Reference Group in place
  • Early planning and background studies begin

Phase 2 - Future scenario development and stakeholder engagement

Year: 2023

  • Future of Fremantle Aboriginal Reference Group in place
  • Community and stakeholder engagement
  • Place and Economic Directions Report
  • Vision and scenario development

Phase 3 - Preferred future scenario

Year: 2024

  • Preferred scenario and reporting finalised
  • Future of Fremantle Planning Committee completes work
  • State Government to consider recommended scenario and Place and Economic Vision in context of Westport Business Case
