The Equal Opportunity Commission participated in the launch of the WA Youth Action Plan at City Farm on Tuesday 8 October 2024 by presenting a stall.
Development of the Action Plan included consultations with young people across WA and common issues and themes from the consultations informed the six focus areas of the Plan. The work of the Commission relates closely to the Plan’s focus area ‘Embracing diversity and inclusion’ and hosting a stall at the launch was a valuable opportunity for us to listen to views and ideas shared by young people.
The Commission’s Strategy and Engagement Team was keen to introduce new activities into the mix at our stall, ones we hoped would appeal to and engage young people. The activities, which posed questions via a spinning wheel, a QR code quiz and flip cards, sparked conversations and helped develop understanding of what constitutes discrimination and options to deal with it.
