Pilbara-based contracting company Yurra was announced the winner of the Economic Development category at the 2021 Western Australian Community Achievement Awards.
Sponsored by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, the award recognised Yurra for their commitment to providing local employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal people and their contribution to the broader community in working towards a unified and sustainable future.
Founded in 2013, the company is a successful collaboration between the Yindjibarndi people and ALM Landscaping. Yurra directly employ approximately 130 staff members, of which 50% identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
In 2019, Yurra was awarded a five-year $20 million contract to provide maintenance services to Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s Pilbara Rail Network in WA, which has provided pathway opportunities to existing Aboriginal employees.
Yurra has grown from a $500,000 turnover in 2014 to $30 million in 2021.
