The Town of Mosman Park will today commence its three-bin food organics and garden organics (FOGO) service.

2,955 single-unit dwelling homes will be the first to access the new service, with each household receiving a caddy and bin liners.

The Town is the 18th local government to start FOGO services, and the 10th in the Perth metropolitan region to join the FOGO revolution.

The State Government has committed $20 million to support local governments transitioning to three-bin FOGO services through the Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO program. Under this program, $49,400 of funding has been committed to the Town of Mosman Park

Adrian Wiley, Director of Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation praised the Town of Mosman Park for joining the FOGO revolution.

“It is very encouraging to see another local government in Perth introduce the FOGO service to residents.

“We know that the FOGO service can achieve the highest material recovery rates, and we congratulate the Town of Mosman Park for taking the next step on their sustainability journey.

“FOGO is a valuable resource that should be recovered and used to enrich our soils ,” said Mr Wiley.

The State's Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 has a target to deliver a harmonised FOGO kerbside collection system in the Perth and Peel regions by 2025.

Town of Mosman Park Mayor Paul Shaw said the commencement of FOGO will help the Town meet its target of increasing material recovery to 70 per cent by 2025.

“Making the move to FOGO is just one of many big steps the Town is taking to further our commitment to landfill diversion and waste reduction,” says Mayor Shaw.

“The commencement of FOGO in Mosman Park aligns with key community-driven actions and aspirations from the Town's Waste Plan, draft Sustainability Strategy and Strategic Community Plan."
