Thank a School Traffic Warden this National Road Safety Week

The special day, which has been incorporated into this years National Road Safety Week by Minister for Police and Road Safety Michelle Roberts, gives school communities an opportunity to thank their traffic wardens for the work they do in keeping children safe in their daily commute.
 
“Our school traffic wardens are the unsung heroes of the community,” said Mrs Roberts.

“They are here rain, hail or shine to protect our kids and I know the kids look forward to seeing them in the morning and afternoon.

“These are amazing community spirited people that do such an important job in keeping our kids safe.”
 
Evelyn Gill and Robyn Smith were recognised by Minister Roberts and presented with special certificates for the work they do in keeping the students of Governor Stirling Senior Highschool safe as they commute to and from school.
 
Evelyn aged 90, has been a school traffic warden for more than 18 years and takes great pride in helping Governor Stirling students cross a busy stretch of Great Eastern Highway every day.
 
“I love the kids – it’s my outing, going to work,” she said.
 
“I hope I can continue for many years to come.”
 
Robyn, who has also been a school traffic warden for many years was delighted to receive special recognition.
 
“The kids are great, and I think it’s the best job I have ever had,” she said.

“We didn’t expect to be recognised like this – it’s lovely.”
 
Schools and students can download Thank a School Traffic Warden certificates from the Road Safety Commission website. Two versions are available including one that children can colour in and one that is ready to be printed. Posters and other materials are also available to download.
