Release of Version 5 of the TAE Training Package
Last updated:

Version 5 of the TAE Training Package was approved by the Australian Industry Skills Committee on 8 November 2022 and endorsed by Skills Ministers on 18 November 2022.

Version 5 includes a new TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment that supersedes and is equivalent to TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

The Trainer and Assessor qualification requirements in Schedule 1 of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations remains unchanged and there is currently no requirement for existing trainers and assessors to ‘upgrade’ to TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 requires those that deliver and/or assess nationally recognised training being vocationally competent and hold a ‘training and assessment credential’.

As per Schedule 1 of the Standards for RTOs, where the RTO requires an individual to provide both training and assessment services on its behalf, the trainer and assessor must hold one of the following:

  • TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor; or
  • TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment plus the following units:
    • TAELLN411 (or its successor) or TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills; and
    • TAEASS502 (or its successor) or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B and Design and develop assessment tools; or
  • a diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.

For further information on Training and Assessor Regulatory Requirements please refer to the TAC Fact Sheet.

For RTOs with the superseded TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment currently on scope of registration, TAC will automatically add the equivalent TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to your scope, without requiring an application or a fee.

Transition and Teach Out Arrangements outlined in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will apply to the new qualification, for further information on Transition and Teach Out Arrangements please refer to the TAC Fact Sheet.
